Good morning, Toledo!
From domestic violence advocacy to Jeep reunions, backpack giveaways to circus arts classes, this week's newsletter captures the heartbeat of our community in action. Whether you're looking to support local causes, discover new dining spots, or find your next favorite summer event, there's something here that connects us all. Dive in to see how Toledo is showing up for each other this week.
We’ve added a quick poll at the bottom of today’s newsletter. Last week we asked how many Rocket football games you go to each year. Now we want to know if you would go to a home game if we gave away free tickets!
Be sure to follow us on Instagram as well! @toledodispatch

News
Court Advocacy Gap Filled Locally
A domestic violence court advocacy program at Toledo Municipal Court closed this week after six years of funding struggles, but the YWCA of Northwest Ohio is stepping up to ensure survivors still have support. The organization handles nearly 1,500 hotline calls yearly and shelters around 400 people annually.
Services remain available regardless of shelter residency, with advocates ready to assist through legal processes, emergency response, and healing resources.
Seat Belts Save Lives
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Cedar Point honored 13 crash survivors at the park Friday, recognizing people whose seat belts made the difference in serious accidents. The ceremony included certificates and special license plates for those who buckled up and lived to tell about it.
It's a simple reminder that works: over 400 Ohioans died last year in crashes where seat belts were available but not used. One decision, every trip.

Community Spotlight
Toledo's Rolling Reunion
Every August, thousands of Jeeps roll back into the city for Jeep Fest, and it's more than just a car show. It's a homecoming that reminds us why Toledo earned its title as the home of the Jeep, decades of manufacturing history, local pride, and a community that still gathers to celebrate what we've built here.
From downtown block parties to off-road courses, it's become the kind of weekend that brings people together around something distinctly ours.
School Rocks Backpack Giveaway
This Sunday, two local Verizon stores on Secor Road are hosting Round Room's annual backpack giveaway, now in its 14th year. Over 140,000 backpacks will be distributed nationwide, with a few lucky kids finding a golden ruler keychain worth a $250 gift card.
It's a small gesture that helps families stretch their budgets and sends kids back to school ready. Lines form early, so arrive with time to spare.

City Updates
Gold-Accented Soul Food Spot Opens Downtown
Luxe Privé has opened on Monroe Street near the Toledo Museum of Art, bringing soul food and cocktails to a space decked out in gold accents. Co-owners Victoria Hamilton and chef Malee Brown run the food and bar sides respectively, with standout dishes like mac and cheese that could be a main course and Sweet Heat Ribeye Bites.
The spot offers weekly specials including $2 tacos on Tuesdays, free kids meals on Wednesdays, and weekend brunch with live entertainment on Sundays.
Local Farms See Surge
Holland's Back To The Garden and other northwest Ohio farms are seeing a noticeable uptick in customers as a nationwide cyclosporiasis outbreak shifts how people think about their produce. Rod Brandt sold out of lettuce in 20 minutes at the Perrysburg Farmer's Market and says shoppers want to know exactly where their food comes from and who grew it.
