News

Club Football Returns to Glass Bowl

The University of Toledo Collegiate Club Football team is gearing up for another season at the Glass Bowl, offering fans a chance to catch live college football on Sundays for just $7. The program, founded in 2020, finished No. 5 nationally last season and continues to provide local athletes a path to keep playing beyond high school.

Home opener is September 20 against Cinci United. It's an affordable way to watch competitive football without the Division I price tag.

Walleye Sign Michigan Native

The Toledo Walleye have locked in forward Nick Nardecchia for the upcoming season. The Macomb native spent last year with Wichita, posting 20 points in his rookie campaign, and now joins the hometown roster after being acquired in a March trade.

It's a solid addition as the team continues building its lineup heading into the fall.

Community Spotlight

Standing Up for Home

Laneda Jones has called Southwyck Place home for seven years, and when a plumbing disaster left her basement flooded with sewage, she didn't back down. After more than a week of waiting and being told to clean it herself, she reached out for help, and her persistence finally got results.

It's a reminder that sometimes speaking up is what it takes to make things right, even when the situation feels impossible.

Voices on Privacy

Sean Nestor has become a familiar name in conversations about surveillance and civil liberties around Toledo. As a local activist, he's been speaking up about the balance between public safety tools and personal privacy, a debate that's hitting close to home for many residents.

Whether you agree with him or not, he's helping shape a conversation the community needs to have.

City Updates

County Cashing Out Investments

Lucas County is liquidating $46 million in investments this year, including a $5 million Israeli bond that drew public attention. Treasurer Lindsay Webb says it's purely a budget call, the county needs cash on hand to cover expenses, not a response to political pressure.

The Israeli bond earned about $800,000 over three years, but tight finances mean all maturing investments are being converted to liquid funds.

Recovery Housing Transition Underway

A local recovery house is consolidating buildings following new state regulations, with residents at Keep It Simple House navigating short-notice changes. Some face weekend move-out timelines while others are transitioning to rent-based arrangements. The facility says it's working individually with residents during the shift, which comes as Ohio updates recovery housing standards.
