Power Out, Patience Thin

High winds knocked down wires across northwest Ohio over the weekend, leaving over 1,500 people without power in Lucas County. US 20 between Clyde and Bellevue was shut down Sunday evening, and some residents report being in the dark for days. City Councilperson Sam Melden called out First Energy for poor communication and service, especially for vulnerable neighbors relying on medical equipment.

Walleye Season Starts Early

The Maumee River walleye run is already underway, a bit ahead of schedule thanks to warmer water and rising levels. Thousands of anglers are expected at spots like Side Cut over the next month. Metroparks is adding extra facilities to handle the crowds, and reminding folks to fish safely when the current picks up.

Community Spotlight

Point Place Sidewalk Watch

A sinkhole opened up this week on North Summit Street near 109th, right beside a bench where neighbors usually stop to rest. City crews blocked it off quickly, but there's no word yet on when repairs will happen.

It's one of those reminders that infrastructure doesn't always announce itself until something gives way—and that Point Place folks are keeping an eye out for each other while the city sorts it out.

Waterville's Wildlife Helpers

When windstorms hit this week, Nature's Nursery in Waterville stepped up with practical advice for residents finding baby squirrels in their yards. The team has already taken in over a dozen displaced animals and is helping neighbors know what to look for and when to call for help.

It's the kind of quiet, steady work that makes a difference when nature throws a curveball at our community.

New Riverfront Park Coming

Toledo is turning a former dredge dump site at Pontiac and Summit into Pontiac Preserve, a 68-acre riverfront park with walking paths, wetlands, and overlooks. The project transforms wasteland into functional habitat while creating public access to prime waterfront. Expected to open late April or early May, with future plans for a kayak launch.
